Remembering Every Child and Honoring Every Family
Child loss is a club no one ever chooses to join — yet for too many families, it becomes a devastating reality. In the days and weeks following a child’s death, support often surrounds grieving families. But as one year becomes five and five years becomes ten, the calls grow quieter, the cards stop coming, and the world seems to move on. Life continues, while a child’s memory slowly fades from the conversations of those who once knew them.
Because They Lived exists to ensure that families never feel their child has been forgotten. We offer simple but meaningful reminders that their child mattered. That their life had purpose. That the world is better because they were here.
Because They Lived was created in honor of our daughter, Emmalin. Emmalin passed away in May of 2017, a day that forever changed our lives. As the years have gone by, it has often felt as though Emmalin’s presence has diminished. What we would have given for someone to reach out—someone who understood our grief and affirmed that Emmalin lived, was loved, and mattered.
Because They Lived is a collective effort to restore the support that too often fades after the loss of a child. It exists to remind families that it is because of their child—because of (insert name)—that love, remembrance, and meaning endure. Their child endures. Even the smallest act of remembrance can make a lasting difference.
